Scientific name -Averrhoa carambola
Description
Star fruit is a small, slow growing evergreen perennial tree in the Oxalidaceae family. It has a lot of branches and the young plant has the shape of a pyramid. The leaf is small and oval in shape. The upper surface of the leaf is smooth and is yellowish green in colour.
Plant care and instruction
Water thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering for the winter & rainy season. Try to water the plants in the morning around 8-10am. You should remove dead, infected or damaged plant parts and throw them in the garbage collector. You should prune and fertilize a plant mostly in the spring season.

Special feature
The fruits are showy with an oblong shape: they are longitudinally 5- to 6-angled and 6.35–15 cm long and up to 9 cm wide. The fruits have a thin, waxy skin that is orange-yellow colored. The juicy fruits are yellow inside when ripe and have a crisp texture and when cut in cross-section are star-shaped.
