Mandevilla Pink Plant

Common name(s): Mandevilla

Scientific name: Mandevilla sanderi

Description

Mandevilla is a tender woody vine much beloved by gardeners in warmer climates. It provides a non-stop blooming of huge pink trumpet-shaped flowers. The very showy flowers have white and gold throats and are up to 10 cm across and arranged in racemes. Mandevilla blooms heaviest in summer and sporadically throughout the rest of the year. This vine's fuzzy young stems twine around supports, eventually scrambling to heights up to 10 ft. The handsome leathery leaves are dark green, up to 20 cm long, and 7.6-10 cm wide. Mandevilla is native to southeastern Brazil. This very ornamental vine is enjoyed as a garden plant in mild climate areas around the world. Cultivars are available in various colors and also double forms.

Mandevilla Pink Plant care and instructions

At least five to six hours of sunlight a day is ideal for flowering and plants grow well in bright direct natural light. The soil should be well-drained and rich in organic content for growing Mandevilla plants. Water the plant when the topsoil (1-2 inches) in the pot feels dry to touch. Do not overwater the plant. Water thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering in the winter and rainy seasons. During the main growing season (August-December) feed the plant with organic fertilizer once a month. Loosen the topsoil without disturbing the roots of the plant so it can uptake nutrients and moisture easily. Remove dead, infected, or damaged plant parts and discard them away from the plants. For any insect attack or disease, you can use Neem oil, Eucalyptus oil, or Citrus oil spray for primary treatment. Do not overwater the plant. Avoid applying water on flowers and leaves because it may cause fungus infection.
