Clerodendrum splendens, native to western Africa, is a woody or semi-woody evergreen vine or running shrub to 12 ft long, that climbs by twining. The leaves are oval, to 7 in long, and arranged in opposite pairs. Flowers are tuba-shaped, having a slender tube with an abruptly expanded corolla. They are scarlet (sometimes white), about 1 in across, and borne in dense terminal clusters to 5 in inches long. The fruit is unknown. This evergreen climber is popular in warm, humid climates and can be used as an evergreen screen on a trellis or wall. The flowers are extremely showy and attractive to butterflies as well as people. Flaming glory bower can be found growing up the pillars and walls and exhibits its peak flowering during December and January.

Clerodendron Splendens plant care and instructions

Flowering plants need access to bright sunlight to remain healthy and blooming. An east-facing balcony is the best place for the plants in Indian conditions. Try keeping them in bright sunlight but also where they get a little cover from the harsh afternoon sun. Some plants which are a little tender tend to burn due to the same. Plants with thin leaves need daily watering and ones with thick leaves need watering 3-4 times a week. This will also depend on the season. Generally, during the blooming period, plants love a lot of water. Try keeping the soil moist. During winters it is better to cut back on watering. Keep the plants in well-drained soil with a drainage hole at the bottom. This will help to avoid over-watering. Take care as to not leave stagnant water on top of the soil. Fertilize the plant once in 2-3 weeks during its blooming period. Do not fertilize it in winters.
